Under The Window

from Vantage by Charles Ramsey & Maya Cole

/

lyrics

i awake to a world of pitch
and for the sake of appearances
step outside to all faces and forms

silhouetted,
indistinguishable from one
another,

tantamount and standing in their own jet
semblances, imbued
and benumbed by a far off beacon -

i too become fixed on the alabaster
source of our sudden futility;
beautiful, humanesque and intangible.

the beacon sharpens to a young woman
stoic at her window and staring - vigil
and vantage over infinite mannequins -

and as i reach out a hand to hail
and raise a hail to harken, i as well am black
and naught but pitch -
